(Pre-Announcement of) CALL FOR PROPOSALS: Protostars and Planets VII, Deadline April 1, 2020

The Protostars & Planets series has served the community for more than three decades with state-of-the-art compilations of the current knowledge in the fields of star and planet formation. The previous volume PPVI was published in 2014. Since then, the field of Protostars & Planets has advanced significantly. The next Protostars & Planets conference will take place in Kyoto, Japan, April 1-7, 2021. For more details about schedule and location, please visit the conference web-page <http://ppvii.org>.
A primary outcome of the conference will be a book of review articles as Protostars and Planets VII. This announcement is a call for proposals for review chapters in the book and associated talks. Since the organizers would like to have sufficient time to evaluate the proposals, we ask you to submit proposals by April 1, 2020. The respective deadlines and dates are the following:
November, 2019 (tbd): Call for review chapters and talk proposals
Apr. 1, 2020: Deadline for the submission of proposals
Oct. 1, 2020: Decision on review chapters and talks
Oct. 1, 2020: Start of registration
Dec. 1, 2020: End of early registration
Feb. 1, 2021: Submission of extended skeleton papers
Mar. 1, 2021: Submission of the final review article
Apr. 1, 2021: Start of PP7 meeting
We encourage different groups to collaborate and present comprehensive reviews where the competing schools of thoughts are discussed in context and where common ground as well as controversies are explored in an unbiased and objective way. We see this as a very important aspect of the scientific value of the conference and the resulting book. We aim for about 30 chapters of about 25 pages each, but the actual numbers and lengths of the review chapters may vary depending on decisions by the SAC. We invite everybody in the community (including SAC members but excluding PP7 Editors) to propose a chapter and associated talk for Protostars & Planets VII. As during previous meetings of Protostars & Planets, each review chapter will be represented by a talk during the conference. The speaker may be the first author of the chapter but it may also be one of co-authors to increase the visibility of various members of the teams. The Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) encourages such a split approach.
[Format]
Submissions should include: the short summary of proposal, the list of authors, list of sections, and description of the subjects. The length should be no more than 4 pages including figures and tables but excluding references. All the files should be in a single pdf format.
[New Rules]
In PP7 we have decided on the rule that any author cannot be in multiple proposals. This “one proposal per person” rule applies irrespective of being the first author or co-author. In addition, it is our goal that each chapter will not be a loosely connected collection of subsections written by individuals, but a comprehensive and coherent whole. Therefore, a proposal with too many co-authors is not recommended. Proposals with 3-6 authors that provide a broad perspective are encouraged. In this way, we hope a small number of authors are responsible for their own single review proposal.
As a guideline for the structure of the conference and book, the Editors and SAC provide a list of topics to be covered below. We note that this list is not binding and further suggestions and proposals are welcome.
